"Local sly caps MATT FISHER AND THE TELEPHONE
JUNKIES' 'It's Too Late'/'Bad Questions,' a
two-song EP crowded with enough tasteful melody
and post-punk turbulence to send Rivers Cuomo to
bed crying for a couple of years. In fact, the
chorus to 'It's Too Late' is an eloquent zephyr
from 'Rubber Soul,' replete with soaring backup
vocals and a Richard Starkey backbeat. Not bad
for a Southern Regional graduate. Taking his
cues from the likes of Sir Paul, Joe Jackson and
Paul Westerberg, Fisher has managed to navigate
between power-pop bliss and art-rock noise with
the very same shrewdness that his rock and roll
heroes rode straight up the zeitgeist. And, in
the opinion of this lowly wordsmith, it is only
a matter of time before Fisher and Company begin
their own ascent."

"On
Wednesday, Nov. 29, power-pop visionaries MATT FISHER
AND THE TELEPHONE JUNKIES released their first
full-length LP, 'The Clock Doesn't Stop.' With a massive
local following, a packed touring schedule, including
stops at Kenny's Castaways in Manhattan and a weekly
residency at The Gateway), The Junkies may just harness
the momentum they need to harvest the attention of a
record label or two. It's pure logistics, Islanders.
Band records LP. Band tours supporting LP. Band creates
buzz. Record labels swarm like bees to honey. It could
happen. While Fisher and Company's aesthetic has been
frequently compared to the confectionary pop of melody
makers like Elvis Costello and Ben Folds, such cheerful,
marginal assessments belie Fisher's lyrical
sophistication (listen to the record and you'll hear a
young man coming of age), and guitar acrobatics. Make no
mistake: Fisher is a unique talent; both schooled in the
Top 40 craft of refrain-heavy songwriting, and able to
trade licks with guitarists twice his age. This week,
The Junkies will take the stage at The Marlin on Friday
and The Gateway on Tuesday. Come out and support a band
on the brink."

"Think
of a night out with Matt Fisher and the Telephone
Junkies now as an investment in the future--one that
will yield bragging rights once the band has become a
widespread household name, as in 'I saw them way back
when they were still playing bars, just starting out.'
Soak in the sights, the sounds and the sense that
greatness is at hand. Afterward, note the unshakable
feeling of having just laid eyes and ears on an ensemble
bound for--indeed, on the threshold of--superstardom."
